Fun Weekend

Last weekend Dave took Friday night off from work so that we could go on a special adventure - a trip to The Big Mo ! I've never been to a Drive-In and we'd been talking about how much fun it would be to catch some movies there (and I was really craving hot dogs), so he surprised me. He called Mom and asked her to come join us. Then he called his brother, Brian, and invited him.

Monetta and The Big Mo are only about an hour from Columbia on the other side of Batesburg-Leesville. The theatre is open from March through November each year. In the past few years they have even added a second screen which means they have 4 movies available to watch each weekend since you pay for a double feature.

The website tells you to arrive at least an hour early to make sure you get a space and get settled before the show starts around 9 pm. Be prepared for a late night since the first show starts at dark during the summer. It's a great deal: $6 per adult and $3 per child under 12 for a double feature. Everything in the concession stand is cheap especially compared to regular theatre fare. And they show great current movies. Last weekend we were able to catch Transformers and Evan Almighty. This coming weekend they will have Harry Potter!

The weather was perfect for our night out. It wasn't too hot especially for a summer night in July and it wasn't that crowded. Mom and I waited in line for a while at the concession stand, but what we got was worth the wait. A large popcorn was on $2.75. Between all of us we tried the hot dogs, cheeseburgers, sausage dogs, and popcorn and they were all very tasty. You can also bring your own food if you want, just no grills or alcohol. You can sit in your car or bring chairs. Lots of people drive pick-ups and sit in the chairs in the back of their trucks to get the best open-air view.

The drive to and from the theatre was great fun, too. We all talked and had sing alongs. We got home around 3 am. Mom spent the night since it was so late to drive home.
I really hope we will be able to go again soon. What a great night!

Saturday, Mom and I went over to Aunt Linda and Uncle George's house to visit and have dinner. We sat and talked for a bit. Then we had yummy chicken tenders and a lovely assortment of fresh fruit and vegetables: fresh sliced tomatoes, cabbage, corn, squash, zucchini, asparagus, watermelon, canteloupe, honeydew, and grape salad. Yum! After dinner we watched The Prestige which Dave and I had already seen, but I was curious to get other people's opinions since the plot was a little confusing. Another great night. Thanks so much Aunt Linda and Uncle George.
