Catching up
I've decided to follow suit of some of my blogging friends by going back in time to post about some things that happened before this blog was born. This is a picture of the cabin where we stayed.
I was looking through pictures tonight and came across Dave's 33rd birthday pictures when we went to Chimney Rock, North Carolina for a long weekend. I highly recommend visiting this quaint, little mountain town. Let me reiterate that the town itself is very small, but despite its size there's plenty to enjoy. And it's only about 30 to 40 minutes from Asheville, Hendersonville, and Black Mountain which are all great towns to visit. As a point of interest Chimney Rock is also next door to Lake Lure, the small town where the movie Dirty Dancing was filmed!
We stayed at these GREAT cabins that were located just outside of town and off the beaten path up a winding road. Our cabin had everything you could possibly want including a full kitchen, private deck with a hot tub, and a fireplace. We had great fun trying to get a fire started, but once it got going we had to open the door to outside because it was so hot! We made S'mores which I don't think I've done since I was in Girl Scouts.

Here's another picture of our cabin from further down the road.
We went the last weekend of October last year which is a great time to visit the mountains because of the fall foliage and mild temperatures. Chimney Rock is most well-known for Chimney Rock Park which has miles and miles of gorgeous hiking trails as well the focal point of the park, Chimney Rock. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the park and the weather was perfect!

This is Chimney Rock itself from inside the park.

And this is the town below viewed from atop Chimney Rock.

There's a beautiful riverside boardwalk and park downtown in Chimney Rock. This picture was taken from the park.
There are tons of interesting little restaurants and shops downtown that we enjoyed browsing. Everything moves a little slower here which is a nice change. And bring provisions because the nearest Super Walmart is quite a ways away! We found this out firsthand one night when I had a terrible case of insomnia and we ventured out to find some Dramamine.
We had a great time and hopefully we'll be able to go back to the mountains this fall for another adventure.
