Hardwood floors - before & after

I realized last night that I never posted proper before & after pics of our floor project. Dave gets all the installation credit and most of the demo credit on this one. Now all living areas and bed rooms have oak hardwood floors.

The back den had carpet over some type of old sub floor - I would give it a name, but I'm not sure what it's called. Above, Dave is removing the carpet & padding. Below, Dave is standing on the prepped floors. I should also mention since you can see the walls really well in the pic below that when I moved in, this entire room and the kitchen were the original dark stained pine paneling (this was before I owned a digital camera so no before pics). I know some people prefer that, but it was entirely too dark. So I painted it and never looked back. Lighter paint totally gave the room a fresh, airy updated feel.

The kitchen had a layer of vinyl over a layer of luon (sp?) which is a type of flooring that is glued down onto a layer of plywood - I'm told this used to a common flooring choice. Since we had to take the dishwasher out to do the floors, we decided to get a new dishwasher. The door was totally broken on this one anyway.

And finally, here the same room as pics #1 & #2 with the brand new gorgeous oak flooring! Dave did a fantastic job! But he swears he will never do this again for many reasons. If there ever is a next time, he says he will gladly pay some other sucker to do the job.

AW, I agree that Dave did a great job and the hardwoods look great. Thanks.

Jennifer,
We are getting our house updated so that we could easily put it on the market. I'll be revealing more details soon...

Hey!! I found your blog via Melissa's. I recently discovered blogging and really love it! It's much easier for me to keep up than a scrapbook.
It looks like all of your hard work is going to pay off. Maybe this should be your new career!
