Back to School
Yep, I mean me. I have decided to go back to school in order to make a career change. Right now I'm on the waiting list to get into the Radiologic Technology program at Midlands. I've done all the financial aid, advisement, registration, tuition payment stuff and I'll be ready to start classes next week. I still have to get my books and a student ID.
Luckily all my credits from USC transferred so I don't have to take a bunch of pre-requisites like English, Math, and Biology. I'm working to get some extra merit points to hopefully speed along my admission into the program so I'm taking 2 classes for the fall semester: Medical Terminology and Anatomy/Physiology II. Hopefully, since I took all those nursing classes at USC and had lots of exposure to medical terminology and since I also took Anatomy/Physiology for 2 semesters and got good grades, these classes will be fairly easy. It's going to be interesting regardless. I can't believe I've been out of school for 8 whole years!
Did I mention that my text books will cost approximately $180 EACH?! Can you believe that? I knew they would be over a hundred, but I had no idea...
So the best possible scenario goes like this: I will be accepted into the program by next summer/fall. And once I'm accepted, I will be in school full-time for about 20 months. Scary stuff because at that point I'll have to quit my full-time job that I've had for the past 6 years, the one that pays the big bills - EEEK! I'll have to find a part-time/weekend job that doesn't interfere with my class/clinical schedule. Please everyone say a little prayer that I get accepted next summer.
So this has been a big year with big changes for Dave and me. We are taking it all in stride, though. Dave is very supportive of me going back to school because he knows how unhappy I've become in my job. And, hey, the possibility of higher earning potential doesn't hurt either. I also think it's cool that I will be able to have varied work shifts, not just banker's hours like I've always known (and not to mention I'll get to wear scrubs every day!). And if I get a job with a county hospital they will count my state retirement time.
More to come on the school front I'm sure. That's all for now.

Wow, EB! Sounds great, but LOTS of work :) I'm sure you'll do really well. I've always thought that you belonged in the medical profession in some form. Sorry our round of phone tag never resulted in an actual conversation :(
I hate we played so much phone tag, too! I feel the same about being in a medical profession, but just never could figure out which one. Let's hope I get it right this time! Hahaha
How exciting! I think you are going to do GREAT!! I am so proud of you!
