Officially retired!

It has been decided: Until I have a bigger kitchen with 2, maybe 3, ovens I WILL NOT be doing any more wedding cakes! Dave and I tried to figure up how many hours I spent doing this cake. I'm not sure what the total is, but I can tell you that I spent probably 20 hours in bake time alone. My kitchen is way too small as is my oven. And when you're making and decorating cake for 375, lots of kitchen space is, well, necessary. Dave woke up yesterday dizzy and nauseated so we spent a few hours at the doctor to find out that Dave has an inner ear infection and that we need to install HEPA filters in our air unit because we both have allergies and sinus issues which are excaserbated by the four animals that live in the house. Then we had prescriptions to fill, dinner to eat and then our friend Charlie came by to show us his new Harley. So what should have been finished by midnight was just beginning. Even Dave took his turn decorating one of the cakes and he did really well for his very first decorating experience. Finally at 5 a.m. I finished the cake and went to bed. Today went as smoothly as possible and the cake turned out very nice and very tall. I am so happy to be sitting on my fanny for the first time all week doing nothing, other than typing on this blog. And tomorrow we leave for the beach! Yey! Now if we can just keep Melissa from going into labor!

Here's a picture of Dave's handywork!

Hi! I hope y'all have a great time at the beach! How long will you be there? I am at Edisto & got here Monday night! Zach will actually get to come Wednesday night around midnight & we are very excited since he has spent only 10 hours at the beach with us in 8 years! :) I'll e-mail our phone # b/c I don't want to post it on the blog! Your cake is beautiful!!
